So bin ich ihm als Kind w\u00e4hrend seiner M\u00fcnchner Jahre immer wieder begegnet. Er geh\u00f6rte zu den K\u00fcnstlern, die bei uns zuhause ein und aus gingen. Als ca. 20-J\u00e4hrige faszinierte mich die Bohemien-Aura des im Bett sitzenden jungen Manns, dem Anschein nach so konzentriert lesend, dass der Asche-Anteil seiner Zigarette bedrohliche Ausma\u00dfe Dokumentation der Partnerschaft zwischen der Autorin Gisela Elsner und dem Maler und Kunstkritiker Hans Platschek stellt f\u00fcr die Elsner-Biografin eine Herausforderung besonderer Art dar. W\u00e4hrend sich die Beziehung und Ehe zwischen Gisela Elsner und ihrem ersten Ehemann Klaus Roehler minuti\u00f6s nachvollziehen l\u00e4sst \u2013 anhand des umfangreichen publizierten Briefwechsels der beiden, der Tagebuchaufzeichnungen von Klaus Roehler und der autobiografischen Romane und Filme ihres gemeinsamen Sohnes Oskar Roehler \u2013, bildet die Beziehung zwischen Elsner und Platschek gewisserma\u00dfen eine Leerstelle, einen blinden Fleck. Hier gibt es weder Tageb\u00fccher noch einen Briefwechsel, aus denen sich etwas rekonstruieren lie\u00dfe.<br \/>\nNoch erstaunlicher ist die Tatsache, dass Elsner und Platschek sich nach ihrer Trennung gegenseitig gr\u00fcndlich aus ihren Biografien gestrichen zu haben scheinen \u2013 das betrifft auch die Existenz von Fotos. Im Nachlass von Hans Platschek befindet sich lediglich ein einziges Polaroid-Foto, das offenbar bei einer Silvesterparty aufgenommen wurde, in Elsners Nachlass eine R\u00f6ntgen-Aufnahme ihres Handgelenkes, auf der der Name \u201eGisela Platschek\u201c verzeichnet ist. Bei den jeweils einzigen \u00fcberlieferten drei Briefen von Elsner und Platschek aus dem Jahr 1977, die sich ebenfalls im Nachlass Hans Platscheks befinden, handelt es sich lediglich um kurze Notizen, die die Aufteilung des Hausrates nach der Scheidung betreffen.<br \/>\nSo r\u00e4tselhaft wie die Tatsache, dass Elsner in diesen Notizen Platschek siezt, bleiben auch die Gr\u00fcnde f\u00fcr ihre Trennung. Was war passiert? Welche Art der Kr\u00e4nkung oder Verletzung f\u00fchrte zum pl\u00f6tzlichen Bruch? Und was bringt ein geschiedenes Paar dazu, sich gegenseitig derartig radikal aus ihrer Biografie zu tilgen? All das sind Fragen, auf die sich bisher noch keine Antworten finden lie\u00dfen.<\/p>\n<p>Gisela Elsner und Hans Platschek lernten sich im August 1959, also ein gutes halbes Jahr nach der Geburt von Elsners Sohn Oskar, auf einer Party bei Reinhard Baumgart kennen\u2013 damals Lektor im M\u00fcnchener Piper Verlag, wo gerade Platscheks Neue Figurationen erschienen waren. 1962 trennte Gisela Elsner sich von Klaus Roehler und zog zun\u00e4chst zu Hans Platschek nach M\u00fcnchen. 1963 gingen die beiden zusammen nach Rom, 1964 nach London und 1970 nach Hamburg, wo das Paar bis zur Trennung im Jahr 1976 wohnte. Danach lebte Elsner bis zu ihrem Suizid im Mai 1992 wieder in M\u00fcnchen.<br \/>\nIch hatte das Gl\u00fcck, mich mit einem Stipendium der Casa di Goethe in Rom von April bis Juli 2014 auf die Spuren von Elsner und Platschek in Rom begeben zu k\u00f6nnen, denn es war nicht ganz klar, wie lange die beiden dort tats\u00e4chlich gewohnt hatten, bevor sie nach London weiterzogen. Ein weiterer Grund f\u00fcr die \u201e\u00dcbersiedlung\u201c waren laut Platschek \u201esteuertechnische Urspr\u00fcnge\u201c, wie er einem Freund im Januar 1964 gestand; er sehe nicht ein, dass er als K\u00fcnstler Steuern an den Staat zahlen solle. Darunter f\u00fcgte er als Postskriptum ein: \u201eBrief verbrennen oder aufessen!! Niemanden [sic] davon erz\u00e4hlen!! Niemanden [sic]!!!!\u201c Das war auch eine Erkl\u00e4rung daf\u00fcr, dass Elsner und Platschek sehr zur\u00fcckgezogen, quasi inkognito, in Rom lebten und unter sehr bescheidenen finanziellen Bedingungen. Noch im April 1964 schrieb Platschek an einen Freund, er w\u00e4re froh, wenn er ein \u201eGespenst bannen k\u00f6nnte, das mich vorerst etwas be\u00e4ngstigt: Schmalhans als K\u00fcchenmeister.\u201c<\/p>\n<p>Doch mit der Ruhe und Zur\u00fcckgezogenheit sollte es schon kurz darauf vorbei sein, als n\u00e4mlich bekannt wurde, dass Gisela Elsner f\u00fcr ihren Erstling Die Riesenzwerge (1964) den europ\u00e4ischen Literaturpreis Prix Formentor erhalten sollte. Im Juli 1964 fasste Hans Platschek die Situation folgenderma\u00dfen zusammen:<\/p>\n<p>\u201eDa war die H\u00f6lle los, nach Giselas Preis. Von Salzburg nach M\u00fcnchen [\u2026], dann Z\u00fcrich, dann Rom, wo Tag f\u00fcr Tag mindestens zehn Journalisten auftraten, fragten und photografierten, sodass wir die Flucht ergriffen [\u2026].\u201c<\/p>\n<p>Es war die italienische Presse, die die ersten umfassenden Interviews mit der Autorin ver\u00f6ffentlichte \u2013 Hans Platschek fungierte als \u00dcbersetzer, da Elsner kaum Italienisch sprach. Und die italienische Presse pr\u00e4gte auch den Vergleich mit Cleopatra \u00e0 la Liz Taylor, der Elsner ein Leben lang begleiten sollte als \u201eschreibende Kleopatra\u201c.<\/p>\n<p>Im M\u00e4rz 1959 hatte Gisela Elsner ein erstes Kapitel ihres Episoden-Werkes Die Riesenzwerge fertiggestellt: \u201eDie Hochzeit\u201c. Die konzentrierte Arbeit an den weiteren neun Episoden f\u00e4llt in die Zeit, da die Autorin bereits mit Hans Platschek zusammenlebte. Vor diesem Hintergrund lassen sich Die Riesenzwerge auch als Auseinandersetzung mit den Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschieden zwischen Literatur und bildender Kunst lesen.<br \/>\nWeitgehend unbekannt ist die Tatsache, dass Hans Platschek sich mit Elsners Erstling k\u00fcnstlerisch auseinandersetzte. Er fertigte 1964 einen Zyklus von mindestens f\u00fcnf Gouachen zu Die Riesenzwerge an, dessen Titel Lothar Leinlein schreibt an Gisela lautet und die in Anlehnung an verschiedene Kapitel des Romans betitelt sind.<\/p>\n<p>Neben Die Riesenzwerge sind auch sp\u00e4tere Werke Elsners von den kunstkritischen Auseinandersetzungen mit Hans Platschek gepr\u00e4gt.<br \/>\nObwohl sich Elsner und Platschek nach ihrer Trennung 1976 so gut wie vollst\u00e4ndig aus ihren Biografien gestrichen hatten, setzte die Autorin dem Maler Anfang der 1980er Jahre in ihrem Roman Abseits ein literarisches Denkmal, das gleichzeitig einer Abrechnung gleichkommt. Die dort beschriebene Figur des Malers Fred Meichelbeck entspricht nicht nur von ihrer Physiognomie her Hans Platschek, sondern auch in vielen weiteren Details. So spielt Elsner nicht allein auf Platscheks j\u00fcdische Abstammung an, sondern macht sich auf ihre satirische Art auch \u00fcber dessen andauernde Erfolglosigkeit auf dem Kunstmarkt lustig.<\/p>\n<p>\u201eFred Meichelbeck war ein schmalschultriger, schm\u00e4chtiger Mann, der lediglich dank seiner erh\u00f6hten Abs\u00e4tze mittelgro\u00df wirkte. Seine ungew\u00f6hnliche D\u00fcrrheit verbarg auch sein hocheleganter hellgrauer Flanellanzug nicht, den er sich allem Anschein nach von einem der Honorare erworben hatte, die er f\u00fcr die kunstkritischen Essays erhielt, die er f\u00fcr verschiedene Rundfunkanstalten zu verfassen pflegte. Mit diesen kunstkritischen Essays hielt er sich, weil er seit Jahren keine Bilder mehr verkaufte, \u00fcber Wasser. [\u2026] In seiner ganzen Wohnung hingen dicht nebeneinander bis zu zwei mal zwei Meter gro\u00dfe Leinw\u00e4nde voller schwarzer brezelf\u00f6rmiger Kringel. In seinem Atelier standen sie aneinander gestapelt an den W\u00e4nden. [\u2026] Den Rest der Produktion stapelten sein Kunsth\u00e4ndler in M. [dabei handelt es sich um eine Anspielung auf Otto van de Loo und seine Galerie in M\u00fcnchen] und sein Kunsth\u00e4ndler in Lion [sic!] in ihren Kellern. Beide hatten seit \u00fcber zehn Jahren kein einziges Bild mehr von ihm verkauft. Beide warteten auf den Tag, an dem man mit abstrakter Malerei wiederum Furore machen konnte. Beide ermunterten Fred Meichelbeck, der ab und zu wegen seines ungemeinen Mi\u00dferfolgs an sich selber irre wurde und sporadisch \u00fcberaus ungeschlachte gegenst\u00e4ndliche Bilder zu malen begann, bei der Stange zu bleiben. [\u2026] Daf\u00fcr, da\u00df seine k\u00fcnstlerischen Produkte weitgehend ignoriert wurden, r\u00e4chte sich Fred Meichelbeck mit seinen kunstkritischen Essays, in denen er bald gallenbitter, bald hohnstrotzend \u00fcber die prominenten Kunstkritiker des Landes und \u00fcber seine erfolgreichen Kollegen herzog.\u201c<\/p>\n<p>(Gisela Elsner: Abseits, Reinbek bei Hamburg 1983, S. 52-55)<\/p>\n<p>Die satirische Beschreibung hinderte Elsner allerdings nicht daran, auch hier wieder Erkenntnisse aus Platscheks kunstkritischen Essays einzuflechten.<br \/>\nDie hier beispielhaft angef\u00fchrten \u00dcberschneidungen, Ankn\u00fcpfungspunkte und Bezugnahmen auf ganz unterschiedlichen Ebenen weisen auf einen intensiven Austausch Gisela Elsners und Hans Platscheks hin, der bisher weder von Seiten der Literaturwissenschaften noch in der Kunstgeschichte Beachtung fand. Dass der Dialog mit Elsner das Werk Hans Platscheks auch \u00fcber die erw\u00e4hnten Gouachen zu Die Riesenzwerge hinaus beeinflusst hat, liegt auf der Hand. Schaut man sich einige seiner sp\u00e4teren Platscheks an, in denen er sich der gegenst\u00e4ndlichen Malerei zuwandte, dann lassen sich in den Darstellungen (klein-)b\u00fcrgerlicher Szenen Entsprechungen zu Elsners Gesellschaftssatiren der 1970er Jahre finden. Manche von Platscheks Bildern wirken fast so, als w\u00e4ren sie als Abbildungen oder bildliche Kommentare zu Elsners Romanen gedacht, etwa f\u00fcr Das Ber\u00fchrungsverbot (1970).<\/p>\n<p>In einem NDR-Fernsehinterview mit Elsner, das 1970 nach der R\u00fcckkehr des Paares aus London in der ersten Hamburger Wohnung in der Rothenbaumchaussee 144 stattfand, liest Elsner aus ihrem Roman Das Ber\u00fchrungsverbot, und im Hintergrund sieht man an den W\u00e4nden einige der gegenst\u00e4ndlichen Gem\u00e4lde Hans Platscheks \u2013 ein treffendes Bild f\u00fcr die Synergien zwischen Malerei und Literatur.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<style type=\"text\/css\" data-created_by=\"avia_inline_auto\" Geburtstag einen neuen Blick auf das vielschichtige Werk des Malers, brillanten Essayisten und scharfz\u00fcngigen Kunstkritikers Hans Platschek.<\/p>\n<p>Sein Lebensweg umspannt Erfahrungen aus dem Berlin der Weimarer Republik und der NS-Herrschaft, aus dem Exil in S\u00fcdamerika, aus der jungen Bundesrepublik, der Zeit des Kalten Kriegs und des Mauerfalls.<\/p>\n<p>Bekannt wurde Hans Platschek mit seinen informellen Werken der 1950er und -60er Jahre und durch seine spektakul\u00e4re Kritik an der inflation\u00e4ren Ausbreitung von Informel und Tachismus.<\/p>\n<p>Von 1963 bis 1970 lebte er mit Gisela Elsner, der Schriftstellerin und sp\u00e4teren Ehefrau, in Rom und London. Dort entwickelte er eine neue bildnerische Stilrichtung, den \u201esatirischen Realismus\u201c, mit der er das dichterische Vorgehen von Elsner auf die Bildsprache \u00fcbertrug.<\/p>\n<p>Seit Anfang der 1970er Jahre lebte Hans Platschek in Hamburg und mischte sich, wie bereits vorher, mit B\u00fcchern, Artikeln und Radiobeitr\u00e4gen immer wieder in den Diskurs zwischen Kunstgeschehen, Markt und
